Forming a Company in India

The Companies Act of 1956 sets down rules for the establishment of both public and private companies. The most commonly used corporate form is the limited company, unlimited companies being relatively uncommon. A company is formed by registering the memorandum and articles of association with the State Registrar of Companies of the state in which the main office is to be located.

Foreign companies engaged in manufacturing and trading activities abroad are permitted by the Reserve Bank of India to open branch offices in India for the purpose of carrying on the following activities in India:

-To represent the parent company or other foreign companies in various matters in India, for example, acting as buying/selling agents in India, etc.

-To conduct the research work in which the parent company is engaged provided the results of the research work are made available to Indian companies;

-To undertake export and import trading activities;

-To promote possible technical and financial collaboration between Indian companies and overseas companies.

Application for permission to open a branch, a project office or liason office is made via the Reserve Bank of India by submitting form FNC-5 to the Controller, Foreign Investment and Technology Transfer Section of the Reserve Bank of India. For opening a project or site office, application may be made on Form FNC-10 to the regional offices of the Reserve Bank of India.

A foreign investor need not have a local partner, whether or not the foreigner wants to hold full equity of the company. The portion of the equity thus not held by the foreign invest can be offered to then public.

SPANCO Process

Selling is an art of good customer relationship and influencing the customer to buy or avail a service based on his/her requirement. It has to be combined with the necessary factors for success, motivation, incentives, training, etc. not forgetting the methodology. They are many processes in sales, I would like to share the one I learnt from my seniors at work .They follow a process which tells everything about sales and how it works on.

“SPANCO” stands for:

•Suspect - Definition of the target
•Prospect - Identification of the lead
•Approach - Analysis Evaluation and qualification of requirements, identification of the solution
•Negotiation - Negotiation process
•Closing - Finalization of the order
•Order Ongoing - Account follow-up (up and cross-selling, etc.) Order management and sales monitoring

SPANCO enables organizations to display sales figures with KPI's (Key Performance Indicator as well as to generate, manage and convert leads into customers. Areas of difficulty which may arise in terms of the various phases will be clearly highlighted, so that corrective action will be all the more effective and thus improve the performance of your sales department.

Following this method will help sales people to bring more sales to their company and improve their sales skills. Many organizations insist on this method to their sales people to increase sales. My organization follows this method and found very useful in bringing more customers and sharping the sales skills of the employees.

Education System in India

The availability of skilled manpower to sustain the explosive growth appears to one of the key challenges at present situation. The skill set that is being developed by the current education system in India is considered inadequate. The educational system in India does not teach practical aspects of how to do work and stuff like that. It is very bookish.

We develop people who do not have ability to imagine who do not have ability to create a big picture in their mind and then try to figure out where they fit in. We also do not create people who are more globally oriented. We create people who are more locally oriented, who do not seem to have the framework of working in a global environment.

My views to create a skilled workforce are follows,

-A standardized national curriculum

-No discrimination whatsoever of any kind in schools and colleges.

-Compulsory and universal free education for all children in the age group of six to 14

-Necessary number of schools must be built in all communities

-Private schools must reserve 25% percent of their seats for the disadvantaged

-Norms and standards for all schools (Government and private) including teacher qualifications, which out which no schools will be recognized

-Exposure to practical knowledge than full of theoretical knowledge.

-Public, Private organizations and Government should join hands to prevent childlabour and create a healthy workforce in India.

Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO)

RPO is a specialized service that allows clients to outsource some or all of the recruitment function. An RPO provider leverages the combination of strategy, technology, resources and vendor management to improve the recruitment process.

Operating as the client’s internal recruitment function and strategic partner, the RPO provider will work closely with the client to improve the recruitment efficiencies of quality of hire, speed of delivery and cost containment. Improvements measured and monitored through real-time metrics are then tied to strict service level agreements.

The client’s goal is to select a world-class RPO partner that continuously recognizes and delivers best practices to tactically elevate the client company's internal processes and to promote the company as an employer of choice.

Benefits of RPO

In general, companies do not determine the true costs of hiring, which should include the overhead costs of the recruiter, time spent interviewing, the productivity lost while the position is vacant and similar factors. An RPO provider can collect, refine and analyze a broad set of information that most companies either have not considered, or do not have the tools required to adequately assess and utilize.

This analysis is then used as the foundation on which to build a customized outsource model. Effective talent management requires the coordination of multiple data points, which are often maintained in separate areas of the business are geographically inconsistent and difficult, if not impossible, to quickly access.

An RPO Provider's talent management platform can respond to these challenges by combining all critical talent management functions in an integrated, Web-based process. This automates the talent management lifecycle, provides real-time data and Statistics as well as workforce planning information to better meet the needs of a changing business.

In addition, an RPO provider can offer a client a market analysis that evaluates its overall competitiveness, compensation scales and other factors such as the strength of its brand relative to other industry employers.

4.Eliminated

Bad example: Organising events like exhibitions and retailer conferences.

9.Recommended
Good example: Recommended five new ways to ensure that the company is able to roll out the new version of its 'small car' before the launch of Nano [Images].
Bad example: Recommending ways for the company to roll out its new 'small car'

10.Secured

What makes an Employee Satisfied at Work?

Hi friends i am back after few weeks.I had a busy week with many works to do.Now lets go to the topic What makes an employee satisfied at work?

Employee satisfaction is the core success of any organization.Satisfied employees will stay with the company, be an advocate of the company and its products and services, and contribute to bottom line business success. Satisfied employees also normally perform better and are more motivated.

Many studies have shown that salaries are rarely the number one priority of employees,there are many other things that can make an employee feel motivated and more productive.

Even i am employee of an IT company now,as an Employee there are many things i expect from my employer.Some of them are mentioned below,

- Challenging task or work ,that makes me learn things and grow,that makes me bring out the best in me.
- Responsibilities that empowers me.
- Positive work environment
- Career Growth
- Recognition and Rewards for the good work done by me.
- My opinions and suggestions seemed to count at work.
- I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day,freedom to work in the way i wish.

Generally few of the main factors that affect employee satisfaction are:

•Job security
•Communication between employees & management
•Lack of training
•Compensation
•Job burnout
•Ill-defined tasks
•Poor working conditions
•Lack of support
•Lack of advancement opportunities
•Feeling unappreciated

Job satisfaction brings benefits through improved motivation and productivity from a workforce that feels that they are treated as individuals and not a commodity item. Employer should regularly conduct surveys and hold meetings with employees to know about their needs,concerns and take appropriate actions.Once the employee feels that his needs and concerns are fulfilled by the employer automatically he/she will be satisfied and give more productivity to the organization.

HR outsourcing

HR outsourcing is the current trend used by most of the companies.When it's time to slash HR costs, many businesses begin thinking about using an HRO (Human Resources Outsourcer), a third-party provider of common HR service.Companies relying on external experts to manage HR functions such as Recruitment, payroll and benefits can cut in-house staffing costs, improve services and grant growing companies access to enterprise-class benefits packages.

Some of the key services offered by HR-outsourcing providers include:

* Payroll management
* Wage and salary administration
* Retirement-plan development and administration
* Employee training
* Employee recruitment
* Heath care benefits planning and administration
* Employee relocation
* Incentive-plans development and management
* Executive development and coaching
* Temporary staffing
* Workers-compensation plan management
* Risk management
* Workforce-downsizing management
* Background checks
* Employee-handbook creation and updates
* HR-department optimization

Recruitment is the major service provided most of the HR outsourcing companies.Any business can find and hire new employees, but a major HRO with its wide-ranging expertise and geographic scope can handle sourcing, screening, testing, interviewing, background checking and drug testing far more professionally and efficiently than most in-house staffs. An HRO can also draw new hires from a wider and deeper applicant pool, giving its client company better quality workers in a shorter amount of time — a major intangible benefit.

Some key points that an organization should consider when looking for a HR service provider include:

* The types of HR services offered
* Pricing and contract terms
* Depth of HR experience
* Depth of experience in the relevant business field
* Technology availability and expertise
* Physical location
* Client-satisfaction history

Every business should at least examine the possibility of using an HR-outsourcing service. A careful cost-benefit analysis can help a company decide which operations, if any, should be outsourced.

In this recession,consultancies help a lot to aspiring candidates, who are in need of a job and also to organizations who would like to reduce costs,get good candidates into their company.They act as a bridge between the candidates and HR executives of various organizations.The time where we used to go in search of a job as changed due to consultancies wherein they call us for a job opening.Thanks to all consultants for lending an helping hand to many job aspiring candidates to land in a job.

How do I know if a person is lying?

The following methods of lie detection could be useful for managers, employers, and just in everyday life. They will help you distinguish where truth and lies and not become a victim of fraud. But remember that sometimes ignorance - it is bliss.

External signs

Usually, this liar may be accompanied by the following features:
- A nervous cough;
- Stuttering;
- Yawning;
- Blink;
- Tremor in her voice;
- Change the color of a person;
- Heavy breathing;
- Dryness of the lips;
- Dry mouth;
- The appearance of droplets of sweat.

Gestures, body language

1. Gestures liar uncertain and limited.
2. A man who lies, avoiding eye contact.
3.Liar constantly touching their face, neck, mouth, etc., while he rarely touches the chest of the heart.
4.When a person lies, his gesticulation becomes unnatural, sometimes even fussy. He can pull at the edges of clothing, shakes off the dust, remove small particles (real or imaginary), fingering, rubbing his hands, straightens her hair.
5. Liar can nervously snapping his fingers, banging his foot on the floor, and so forth - are symptoms of anxiety, for which a liar for sure there are reasons.

Contradiction gestures and emotions

1.Very often in the first second after your question on the human face shows what he really thinks. If his face expressed surprise, confusion or doubt, and while he says his confidence is suspicious.
2. If the rate has slowed gestures, probably a man thought for a moment, to come up with a plausible answer.
3. The lie can be accompanied by a mismatch between words and gestures (nodding his head in the negative responses, rocking his head with negative responses).

Interaction

1. A man who lies selects a defensive position, while the man who speaks the truth goes on the offensive.
2.Liar does not feel comfortable standing in front of his interlocutor, he can turn away from you in another direction or how to hide away from your field of view (lean on the cabinet, while actually hiding behind them, lying on a chair, driving it to him under the table, etc.)
3. Liar can unknowingly arranged between them and your foreign objects (book, a cup of coffee, apple, etc.)

This

1. Liar, answering your question, use your own words. "For example: "Did you eat the last cookie?" - "No, I did not eat the last biscuit!"
2. Liar, gives the answer in abbreviated form. For example, "This is not me!" instead of "I did not do it!"
3. Liar, trying not to make direct statements, evasive answers, and makes allusions, rather than speak directly.
4. Liar can be more than natural, adding extra unnecessary details to convince you. He stops and tries not to pause in his speech.
5. Liar could lose control of timbre and tone of voice: a high tone indicates a person experiences stress, as well as the voice of high volume, monotonous speech may be an attempt to lull the interlocutor.
6. It liar may be strongly distorted, mainly affects the syntax and grammar.

Other signs for which you can find the lie

1. If you think that someone is lying to you, change the subject, a liar willing to support you and calm down.Guilty people will want to translate the conversation into another channel, the innocent would want to sort things out until the end.
2. A man who lies, uses a lot of humor and sarcasm in his speech.

Naturally, the presence of some of these signs does not make a man a liar. So finding them in your friend, do not hurry to write it in turn. Compare them with his usual behavior.

Marketing vs Sales

Two key aspects of a successful business are Sales and Marketing. Sometimes the difference between these two techniques is hard to understand. However, though they do go hand in hand, Sales and Marketing are completely different.A very simplistic way of looking at Sales and Marketing is: doing a good job in Marketing can lead to Sales. Marketing is what makes customers aware of the product. Customers buy products and the company makes Sales.

Marketing involves focusing on the people who are most likely to buy your product and making sure that they know it's available.The marketing process also involves identifying products and services that people need or want and producing the product. From there, it's a matter of promotion. Marketing includes public relations and advertising and works best if you can get the product to people in different forms. Marketing can include product placement in a store, brochures and advertisements in newspapers, magazines or on the television or radio. All these Marketing activities inform people about the product, so they can go to the store and buy it and you can make Sales or a profit.

Sales involve getting the product off the shelf or the cart and into the hands of the customer. The customer must decide if they want it and then, buy it. It's even better if they keep coming back for more. Sales are typically a one-on-one experience. You work with one person or a company representative to convince that person to buy the product. To do this you might Demonstrate that the product works or that it's beneficial to the company or person and Show that the product meets a need or a desire or makes their lives easier or better.

So in short Sales pushes an already existing product and marketing recognizes a need to be filled and creates a product to serve that need.

Strategies to Build India as a Strong Human Capital Brand

I presented this paper in a MMA conference during my PG.It dealt with the strategies to build India as a strong human capital brand.

While the physical capital is no longer the main problem for India, they need to improve their human capital by giving them appropriate skill and knowledge.This paper argued that a range of further measures need to be undertaken to provide a stronger institutional framework for improving educational endowments, as well as public service delivery more generally to build India as a strong human capital brand.

Demographic indicators show a huge potential pool of young talent in India, employers are finding that many are unemployable, as they lack practical, job-related skills. To elaborate on this, while the number of new engineers coming out of college every year is fairly large – between 300,000 and 400,000 – studies have shown that only between 10 percent and 25 percent of them are actually employable.

The strategies i suggested to build India as a strong human capital brand are given in points as follows.

Human capital Development before an individual enter into the organization

Role of Government:

# Improve the efficiency of basic educational services
# “No-child left behind”. Ensuring all children receive education
# Boost the returns on education
# Encourage competition in education.
# Investments on Research & development
# Making the education system more responsive to market needs
# Increasing university-industry partnerships

Role of Public:

“We all have a role in building human capital”

$ Involve communities and parents to monitor and evaluate school performance to a much greater degree.
$ Provide funds to educational institutions.
$ Create awareness among underprivileged groups about the importance of education.
$ Participate in Non formal education to school children
$ Take up career in Teaching.

Role of Organizations:

* “Adopt a village” program
* Boosting private Investments in education
* Technological support from the corporate
* Sponsoring underprivileged students
* Promoting non-formal education
* Supporting non academic skill development programs
* Scholarships and loan facilities for meritorious students aspiring higher education.

Human capital Development after an individual enter into the organization

o Enhance training activities and review performance periodically.
o Retain employees by providing proper incentives and maintaining friendly work culture.
o Identify skills and match jobs accordingly
o Sponsor for employees to do their higher education
o Frequent feedback to individual regarding performance.
o Emphasis on team work and empowerment

The delivery of educational services in India needs to be improved significantly to make India as a strong Human capital brand. The government, public and private should join hands to Improve human capital skills. Humans are the only appreciating asset India is rich in that, lets make it effective through strong education base to challenge 21st century.

“Let’s join hands in Developing a strong Human Capital
Building strong human capital – builds strong India”.

Career in Human Resource Management

The Human Resource Management degree prepares students for careers in management and in human resources. There are generalist HRM jobs such as human resource assistant.

There are careers involved with employment, recruitment and placement. Training and development specialism is often conducted by trainers and orientation specialists. Compensation and benefits tasks are handled by compensation analysts, salary administrators, and benefits administrators.

The Career paths lead from technical HR jobs to positions in senior HR management, such as Manager of Compensation, VP of Labor Relations, Director of Employment and others. While most students choose this major to become human resources professionals, others do so to better prepare themselves for careers in the general field of management.

Students are prepared to become generalists in human resources or to specialize in areas such as organization development, training and development, labor relations, and compensation and benefits. However there is moreto HRM than just being the internal function of a corporate. Some options open for professionals interested in career in Human Resource are given below.

Corporate HRM: The role of a HR manager in the corporate sector is to search, select & recruit suitable& qualified staff for his organization. It is also concerned with the development, motivation & training of this staff in order to maximize their satisfaction & minimize turnover. Typically a bachelor’s degree in management allows entry into a junior cadre of HRM, or an MBA is usually the norm for entry into mid level/senior position into HR department of large organization.

Training & Development: There are some companies that specialized in T & D as a business. Their jobs is broadly to “Train the Trainer” or in the other words, train HR managers to , in turn, train employees of their organization & equip them with certain skill sets. They often hold workshops on “behavioral skills” etc.

Recruitment consulting: Recruitment consulting is actually a very lucrative & fruitful field to join at this stage. There are several recruitment consulting firms in India. In some the business & business responsibilities are split by industries & in others, they are split by functions. The general requirement to become a recruitment consultant is an MBA with specialization in HR.

HR consulting: This is the upcoming field, where in organizations employ the services of HR consultants to either find solutions or help tide over issues relating to people in the organization. In the case of organizations that need to re-structure, HR consultant decide on those who need to be retained, fired or promoted. In public sector companies when voluntary retirement schemes are announced, HR consultants are hired to make the process smoother.

Career Counselling: This field includes the paid services of private organizations & also schools & colleges that provide career counselling to their students. “Several schools & colleges hire counselors to conduct behavioral test for students who are the verge of choosing a career stream. They conduct behavioral tests which help students ascertain their skills set & the field that would be ideal for them to join.

Academics: If a person is interested in academics & is keen to take up HR, then a MBA with a specialization in HR or OB is the best option. This followed by doctorate in the same field would make you eligible to teach HR or OB at any institution.

Cross-cultural Management:
This module examines the consequences of cultural diversity for international business activities and the challenges of transferring individual managers and managerial systems across cultures. Students will improve their understanding of potential difficulties in a multicultural business context and build cross-cultural competence.

International HRM: This module offers insights into the diversity of employment systems and structures and human resource management techniques and strategies from both comparative and cross-national perspectives. Focusing on the implications for HRM, a student will gain insight into international business operations with an emphasis on the institutional distinctiveness of business systems, and economic and political strategies of firms as influenced by the national institutional framework.

Equality and Diversity: Currently very few universities offer modules which study Equality and Diversity, which examines theories of occupational segmentation. This new module explores diversity and equality across the dimensions of gender, race, disability, age and sexual orientation.

This module will also identify the contribution of Equality and Diversity Policies and practices to the achievement of organizational goals, quality and excellence in an international context and explore the implications of the European Union, internationalism, globalization, social, political and demographic change for human resource management and employment relations from an equality and diversity perspective.

Change Your Thinking

One of my friend forwarded a mail which had a thought provoking story.Thought will share with all in my blog.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.
One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene. One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed....

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed. It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.'

Moral of the story:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled..If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

'Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present.'

One Day as SalesMan

My mind always aspires to become an HR profession,but its really tough to get a HR job in this recession.There are many openings in the market for Sales/Marketing roles.For a long time i never attended nor showed interest in any sales jobs.Many people advised me to take a sales job temporary and then look out for the job i wanted.

So one day i thought,will give a try for sales job and check whether it will suit me.I attended the interview for sales executive role in a Advertising-Sales organization.The organization is India's leading Directional media company,connecting buyers and sellers through information products and services - yellow pages,white pages directories,classified media,tele-information services,online and mobile media.

I cleared 3 rounds of interview and was asked to join the company.The job involves getting clients for the organization.The clients are people who run a business on their own and wants to advertise,retain existing customers,gain new customers etc.Call customers, fix an appointment,meet them,close the business deal,this is how the job goes on.Its a non-Ac office that had a normal setting,a cabin for each one and a phone,no computers for any,all have to enter the information and data manually in a form.

I joined the company on the said date and time.9Am to 6.30PM was the office timing.The dress code is formal wearing with a tie daily.I reached office at 8.45Am and was waiting in the reception to meet the branch manager. Then i was asked to assemble for the praying meeting.Daily they used to start the day with a prayer,followed by appreciation of the people who have got good business to the company the previous day.

The manager introduced me to the employees.I spoke few words to the crowd and introduced myself to them.Then a girl came and stood in the middle of the crowd and shouted GO,others shouted GETIT,they were telling their slogan and greeted good morning to each other and started their work.All were new to me,their work culture was little different.Their work environment and culture was completely opposite to that of the ITES company i worked before.But i liked the way they started off their day,encouraging themselves each other for performing well.

I had a meet with the manager in his room,were he was inducting me about the company,the job role,incentive program,growth opportunities etc.Then i was introduced to the sales manager.She too inducted me about the job role and the business concept. I was put in team ,which had 4 people including me ,i had to report to District sales manager who was leading the team.

He explained how everything goes on in the team and activities that i should carry on in the job role.The manager had trouble speaking in English to me,so i started speaking in Tamil to him ,to make him comfortable explaining things to me.I was reading few forms and directories for sometime,then the teamlead asked me to come with him for the field work.

He asked me to take my bike.I started driving to places he said.We both started at 11Am in the morning,till 7PM in the evening i was in driving.I had to put petrol for 200Rs,no petrol allowance was provided to me by the management.I was asked to take care of the expenses of my own from the salary.

The manager asked me to observe the activities that he does when meeting the clients. We went to nearly 12 companies,the manager had not fixed any appointment with any of the customers and he just walked in to the company for business.None of the companies gave business on that day.Some people even chased us out.When a sales person ring our home door bell ,we used to ask them leave the place ,saying we dont need the product,the same was experienced by me on that day.

At 6.30PM ,we met with an accident,a biker dashed us with full speed,wherein i got injuries in my leg and hands.I had blood clot in my right leg and was suffering with pain.My bike was damaged in the front part.Nothing happened to the manager.After that the manager asked me to drop him in the office and leave home.I was driving with pain and somehow reached office.

I went and met the sales manager,she asked me how was the day,i dint say her anything that happened,told her it was fine.Then she asked me to leave home.I was very tired and had no strength,suffered with pain throughout my body.I reached home by 9PM and went to doctor for treatment.It was one of the worst day in my life,wherein i was asked to leave a place by someone,was roaming in bike the whole day, met with accident and suffered injuries.

I was not comfortable with the work environment,employees,work culture,the way they approach the customers etc.I joined the company with a feeling ,it would be B-B marketing,but it was completely B-C marketing.Sales career needs lots of patience,willingness to travel.That one day made me never turn to a sales job any more in life.I really wonder seeing people who have taken a sales role.Some people do sales with passion and survive in the field for long time but not all.Many take sales role for some time and at a certain stage,they think of changing their career.

I am again on my path for searching the job i wanted ,i am confident that one day i will land in the job i wished.Its not far.

Team Work

Building productivity is vitally important to the success of a company. To achieve productivity, employers need to motivate their employees to work as a team toward specific goals. The question is how to do this.

Personal responsibility, ownership, involvement, communication, recognition, and reward are building blocks to greater productivity. Sometimes, however, managers encounter a reluctant employee who doesn't want responsibility or involvement in decision making. All this employee appears to want is to be left alone to do his job and pick up a check at the end of the week.

Many times, this person becomes a barrier to productivity because he is not part of the teamwork ethic that can move a department or company forward. Individuals who are self-serving and ego-driven also can be a problem in terms of group motivation.The team managers play a vital role in handling these kinds of employees.Good managers need to understand the forces that motivate people to greater performance. They have to understand the nature and goals of their people and begin to weld together a team that transcends individuals.

Based on my experiences and also with other people I know, i suggest the following ideas to be an effective team member.

Communicate
If you have a problem with someone in your group, talk to him about it. Letting bad feelings brew will only make you sour and want to isolate yourself from the group. Not only does it feel good to get it out, but it will be better for the team in the long run.

Don't Blame Others
People in your group lose respect for you if you're constantly blaming others for not meeting deadlines. You're not fooling anyone, people know who isn't pulling his weight in a group. Pointing the finger will only make you look cowardly. Group members understand if you have a heavy workload and weren't able to meet a deadline. Saying something like, "I'm really sorry, but I'll get it to you by the end of today." will earn you a lot more respect than trying to make it seem like it's everyone else's fault that you missed your deadline.

Support Group Member's Ideas
If a teammate suggests something, always consider it – even if it's the silliest idea you've ever heard! Considering the group's ideas shows you're interested in other people's ideas, not just your own. And this makes you a good team member. After all, nobody likes a know-it-all.

No Bragging
It's one thing to rejoice in your successes with the group, but don't act like a superstar. Doing this will make others regret your personal successes and may create tension within the group. You don't have to brag to let people know you've done a good job, people will already know. Have faith that people will recognize when good work is being done and that they'll let you know how well you're doing. Your response? Something like "Thanks, that means a lot." is enough.

Listen Actively
Look at the person who's speaking to you, nod, ask probing questions and acknowledge what's said by paraphrasing points that have been made. If you're unclear about something that's been said, ask for more information to clear up any confusion before moving on. Effective communication is a vital part of any team, so the value of good listening skills shouldn't be underestimated.

Get Involved
Share suggestions, ideas, solutions and proposals with your team members. Take the time to help your fellow teammates, no matter the request. You can guarantee there will be a time in the future when you'll need some help or advice. And if you've helped them in past, they'll be more than happy to lend a helping hand.

The 90/10 Principle-Stephen Covey

Recently I read the 90/10 principle of Stephen Covey in a Magazine .The 90/10 principle is incredible! It was interesting and as a meaningful insight in it.Very few know and apply this principle.Millions of people are suffering undeserved stress, trials, problems, and heartache. They never seem to be a success in life. Bad days follow bad days. Terrible things seem to be constantly happening. Theirs is constant stress, lack of joy, and broken relationships. Worry consumes time, anger ruins friendships and life seems dreary and is not enjoyed to the fullest. Friends are lost. Life is a bore and often seems cruel. Does this describe you? If so, do not be discouraged. You can be different! Understand and apply the 90/10 principle. It will change your life!

What is this principle? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane may be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%! How? By your reaction. You cannot control a red light, but you can control your reaction. Don’t let people fool you; You can control how you react!

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something negative about you, do not be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You do not have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out, etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound the steering wheel? (A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off!) Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them? Who Cares if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive. Remember the 90-10 principle, and do not worry about it!

You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep or get irritated? It will work out. Use your “worrying” time and energy into finding another job.

The plane is late. It is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take out your frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger, etc. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse.

Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results.

Management Lesson

One of my friend mailed me a story,which was really funny and one that as a meaningful lesson.I thought i will share it with everyone in my blog.

One fine day, a bus driver went to the bus garage, started his bus, and drove off along the route. No problems for the first few stops - a few people got on, a few got off, and things went generally well.

At the next stop, however, a big hulk of a Pathan got on. Six feet four, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the conductor and said, "Pathan doesn't pay!" and sat down at the back.

Conductor didn't argue with Pathan, but he wasn't happy about it. The next day the same thing happened – Pathan got on again, made a show of refusing to pay, and sat down. And the next day, and the next..

This grated on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way Pathan was taking advantage of poor conductor. Finally he could stand it no longer. He signed up for body building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff.

By the end of the summer, he had become quite strong; what's more, he felt really good about himself. So, on the next Monday, when Pathan once again got on the bus and said, "Pathan doesn't pay!"

The driver stood up, glared back at Pathan, and screamed, "And why not?"

With a surprised look on his face, Pathan replied, "Pathan has a bus pass."

Management Lesson: Be sure there is a problem in the first place before working hard to solve one.

Many in life worry themselves a lot without understanding the real problem.A problem is never a problem if dealt at the beginning itself.Life is cool,if its felt so.Lets stopping worrying and try to live a tension free life.

UG vs PG

While i was doing my MBA,more than academics i involved myself in extra curricular activities.I am an average student and highly proactive person.I like to indulge myself in sports,competitions,seminars,paper presentations and various other activities.I was not so when i was doing my engineering,I have never been on stage for any presentation.If i had to do a presentation or take a seminar,i used to take leave for the whole week or abscond myself from that class.

But in PG things changed ,the mode of learning was fully E-mode were presentations,seminars,case study analysis etc.. was the way it was.So PG life changed me completely and now i am capable of facing any number of audience.

During my UG,i dint have enough confidence to face things,i had a weird feeling that i am not capable of doing certain activities.The reason for it was,i had a fear in my mind that i may not do it right the way it should be and i never even gave a try for them.My whole UG life went off with the same feeling.Only when i went out to look for a job,i realized i would have given a try to those activities which i dint care about.

I dont wanted to do the same mistake in my PG ,so i involved myself in many activities to improve my skills and learn things by giving a try to them.Only when we try,we will be able to identify what our strengths and weaknesses are and will be able to mould and shape ourself to meet the external world.

In PG i participated in a paper presentation competition in a B-School.That was my first participation in a Inter college competition in my life.I have never given a try before thinking i may not succeed but this time i was ready to face it and decided to give a try.I presented the paper with full confidence and courage.After my presentation,there was huge response and claps from the audience which made me feel very happy and finally to my surprise the result was i got the first prize for that presentation.So we never come to know our capabilities until we give a try for doing things.

Nothing can be learnt without doing mistakes ,so one should not be afraid of doing things.All it needs is the confidence and courage to do things,never mind who criticizes nor going wrong.From our mistakes we will be able to improve ourself and shine in future.

"Without your involvement you cannot succeed and with your involvement you cannot fail".These words speak everything.

Quality in Customer Service

During my PG i participated in a paper presentation Seminar in one of the B-School in Chennai.The topic of the Paper presentation was "Quality in Customer service".The central theme of my presentation was to show how important is customer service for every organization and what all benefits it would bring about in an organization.

"Every company’s greatest assets are its customers, because without customers there is no company," --Erwin Frand.
The PPT went on with these quotes.In today's market,Quality in customer service from a customer point of view is “a function of how well an organization is able to constantly and consistently exceed the needs of the customer."

At today’s prices, people don’t want bikes that aren’t perfect,houses made with inferior materials, stores with rude employees, or airlines and restaurants that provides poor services.And while most customers don’t bother to complain, they simply take business to other companies which offer the service they expect or products of better quality.

I proposed Customer relationship Management(CRM) as a tool to improve customer service.CRM is the business strategy that aims to understand, anticipate, manage and personalize the needs of an organization's current and potential customers.In simple its all about customer management.A successful and effective CRM programme results in increase of Customers Lifetime Value of any organization.

Pantaloons uses CRM as a main to tool to get more customers and to make existing customers into loyal customers.It also stays in touch with its loyal customers through Mailers, SMSes E-mails and Telephone informing them about the developments and promotions.

CRM plays a key role in the service and sales & marketing areas also. It empowers organizations by providing multi-channel customer interactions, intelligent call routing, automatic activity updating, interaction history tracking, service plan management, customer satisfaction tracking and portal integration.

HCL which use CRM as a tool to improve the business and have valuable customers for a long is a model for CRM implementation.HCL understands that effective loyalty management systems cement business relationships and help to retain existing customers.

Customer relationship management is essential to compete effectively in today’s marketplace. The more effective an organization can use the information about its customers to meet their needs the more profitable it will be. The route to a successful business requires that it understands its customers and their requirements, and CRM is the essential guide.”

The PPT went on with the above ideas and there was huge appreciation from the audience which made me feel satisfied and happy with what i have done.

Employee Relations-Key to Organization Success

My core interest in Human Resource management is Employee relations function.It plays a very major role in any organization.For a healthy and successful organization the relations between the management and employees should be smooth,this can be achieved only through effective employees relations team in the organization.

The main functions in Employees relations are as follows,
1.Enabling smooth transition of new joins into the company by anchoring fresher/later induction and on-boarding programs
2.Creating a healthy and positive work environment necessary to stimulate and engage bright young minds.
3.People compliance by doing Background verification, criminal verification, client requirement verification etc..
4.Handling Employee Communication by holding, Open Houses, Chat Sessions, Skip level meetings.
5.Foster bonding among employees and employee families through RnR ceremonies, cultural and sport events, health and safety events, Petit Day.
6.Promoting a congenial, employee friendly work environment .
7.Lending a helping hand during crises situations and employee emergencies.
8.Encouraging and facilitating resolution of employee complaints and grievances.
9.Ensures organization values are upheld, through value dissemination and timely disciplinary actions.
10.Handling activities related to remuneration and policies for Subsidiaries.
11.At the development centers in various locations, ER team also plays the extended role of other functions of HRD and anchors various HR initiatives for the development center.

Being a part of employees relations team requires lots of patience and innovative thinking skills.In the previous company i worked,the employee relations team was really efficient and bought about many changes in the organization which fostered a positive environment for all employees.Its mantra was "Employee First".The organization hardly believed that the satisfaction of internal customers (Employees) would automatically lead to the satisfaction of external customers.

Even if an employee is paid in lakhs,he would give more productivity and stay with the organization for long time only if he is satisfied with the work environment.This is mainly taken care by the ER team.Thus employees relations team is one of the key to organization success.I aspire to be a part of such team in a Good organization.

Customer Satisfaction

In today's global economy,customers are still the lifeblood of any business.In a competitive marketplace where businesses compete for customers, customer satisfaction is seen as a key differentiator and increasingly has become a key element of business strategy.Without customers to purchase a company products or services,it certainly won't have an income for long time.Even we are customers,we buy products which satisfies our needs and also the one we feel worth for the money we pay for buying that product.Once we are satisfied with a particular product,we become regular uses of it and buy them regularly.

A Company has to provide a product or service that someone needs or wants.It should target the segment that will be more satisfied with the products it produces,rather then targeting a segment which are not that much satisfied with the product.By having a goal of finding good customers, giving them great products and following up with excellent customer service, a company can find that many of them will turn into active feeders for its business.

There is an established principle in the business world called the 80/20 Rule. In the majority of successful companies, 80% of its revenue will be generated from only 20% of its satisfied customers.The simple road map that i feel for journey to success for any company is paved with quality products, personal attention and superior service.

Some of the benefits i predicted from satisfied customers are

1.Satisfied customers tend to continue to buy from the same company.
2.It costs much less to retain existing customers than to acquire new ones.
3.Satisfied customers tell others about their positive experiences, while dissatisfied customers tell even more people about their negative experience.

So Satisfied Customers = Growth of an organization.

Attrition

In the previous years many companies especially ITES companies were facing a serious problem called Attrition.It generally means reduction in the number of employees in the organization due to various reasons.In 2007,Attrition rate was nearly 20 to 40 % in many ITES companies.Even in the company i worked with,Attrition was a major problem.Monthly Attrition percentage varied somewhere between 10 to 20% and the HR people were struggling hard to bring down the attrition rate.

In the company i worked every new joinee as to sign a bond and service agreement for a period of 1 year.The company provided all benefits for the employees like transport allowance,meal allowance,skill allowance,special allowance,Incentives,etc..but still the attrition rate was high and many people were found absconding the company after few months they joined.

When i joined there were 24 people in the batch but after 1 year only 3 people stayed with the organization ,one including me.Many employees left the company for various reasons like Stress from overwork and work life imbalance,No growth opportunities,Lack of appreciation,Job and person mismatch,Job is not what the employee expected to be,New job offer,not happy with the compensation etc..

In the company i worked there were some good programs introduced to make employees stay with the organization.One such program for the employees was the Aspire program.In this program,employees were given training on software courses and after a year they were put into technology side as software engineers.During the training period,certain amount was deducted from the employee salary as part of this program.It was a best program to make employees stay with the company.Other programs that were really good were distance education program,internal job posting and Fast forward program.

Many people view the BPO job as a temporary one,to earn money till they get the job they wanted to.Mostly engineering graduates do so. Some BPOs provide better career development opportunities for its employees through various programs.Graduates can join such BPOs and shape their career by planning and performing well in the organization.Stress is there in almost all jobs,the desire of a person to come up well in life,will decide the future of that person.I have seen many people who have shined well working in a BPO.

ITES companies should implement various such programs to make the employees stay with the organization and make them feel satisfied.A satisfied employee will stay with the organization for a longer period and will show more productivity in his/her work and hence the growth of the organization.

Sales Job

In the present situation ,many companies seemed to recruit more people for sales function.Because in this recession salesman play a major role for promoting the company products and services.Before only graduates were recruited by companies for selling function,but now things have changed ,MBA's are recruited for hardcore sales function.

Yesterday in the morning ,someone rang my home calling bell .when i opened the door a surprise and shock was waiting for me.A guy started saying "I am a MBA graduate and i am here to sell a educational product for kids".I told him we don't have any kids in our home,he can leave and closed the door.I felt bad for that guy because i don't think an MBA degree is needed for such a sales job.

The first thing that people ask in a sales/Marketing interview is "Do you have a bike".For corporate sales MBA's can be used but for consumer sales a graduate is enough.Taking a sales role is not a easy task.People in sales have to travel a lot and face many issues with customers.

A salesman needs good persuasion skills,communication skills,selling skills and people skills.Its very hard to survive in a sales job,it needs more patience and high stress handling within oneself.A friend of mine ,who got placed in a well known FMCG company as Area sales manager ,left his job in 2 months saying ,its not the job for an MBA.The job role was like this,he will be given a area and he as to go get orders from the shops in that area and supply the products to those shops with few people under him.

If a person is able to stay in a sales job for 2 years continuously,he as a very bright future after that.A salesman can earn money more than his salary ,if he shows more productivity than expected.The growth in a sales career is fast and one of the hot jobs were you can earn more in later years.Taking a sales role purely depends on the attitude and will of the person to survive.The more challenging a job is,more money you earn and grow fast.If anyone in interested in traveling and meeting new people,sales job is the right choice.

Fresh Graduates with Recession

Its a tough time for all freshers now to land in a good job.Poor Placements in colleges as left fresh graduates no where.Most of the companies don't hire people and even if they hire, they hire only experienced candidates and not the freshers.

Students who graduated from top colleges are even facing the heat of recession.Students who got placed through their colleges in various companies are waiting with the hope for a call letter.I see many of the engg graduates who got placed in top MNCs, have been informed that they will be called only after 6 months for joining and some haven't even received any response.

Mostly software companies have delayed the date of joining for the young graduates.One of my friend who got placed in top MNC last year,had to wait for 8 months after graduation.Then he underwent training in that MNC for 6 months,after which he was sent out of the company saying his performance was not up to their expectation.Out of 100 students nearly 40% of the students were asked to leave by that MNC after training.This was the case one year back ,now the situation is still more worse and students are left with no hope.

Many students always opt for IT companies to work and don't show their interest in other sectors.Many students join IT companies with lots of dreams but finally end up with failures.Most of the IT companies are totally dependent on foreign clients,so any recession in the client country would have its effect even here,so students should also focus on other industries that has job security.

Its good for a fresher to start his/her career in a small company ,where he/she can learn more and grow soon.The downturn in IT sector as taught a lesson to all people and insisted a need for everyone to focus on other industries too.

Think before you react

I read this story in a magazine.Its a real story and a must read for all of them.In life many people react immediately to all things they see,but don't think before they react.People always assume things about which ever they see, without knowing the real truth in it.I have seen many people who assume things on their own and have a wrong perception.

In management roles,many do this mistake and create blunders in work.The management people must think twice before they react in all situations.The story that thought me a lesson is below.

The train has started moving. It is packed with people of all ages, mostly with the working men and women and young college guys and girls. Near the window, was seated an old man with his 30 year old son. As the train moves by, the son is overwhelmed with joy as he was thrilled with the scenery outside…

’See dad, the scenery of green trees moving away is very beautiful'

This behavior from a thirty year old son made the other people feel strange about him. Every one started murmuring something or other about this son. ‘This guy seems to be a freak...' newly married Anup whispered to his wife.

Suddenly it started raining... Rain drops fell on the travelers through the opened window. The Thirty year old son, filled with joy ' see dad, how beautiful the rain is ...'

Anup's wife got irritated with the rain drops spoiling her new suit.

Anup,' cant you see its raining, you old man, if ur son is not feeling well get him soon to a mental asylum...and don’t disturb public henceforth'

The old man hesitated first and then in a low tone replied ' we are on the way back from hospital, my son got discharged today morning, he was blind by birth, last week only he got his vision, these rain and nature are new to his eyes.... Please forgive us for the inconvenience caused...'

The things we see may be right from our perspective until we know the truth. But when we know the truth our reaction to that will hurt even us. So try to understand the problem better before taking a harsh action.

HR Professionals

HR job is one of the white collar jobs.HR people play a very vital role in attracting,developing ,rewarding and maintaining a effective work force in any organization.They act as a bridge between the employees and the organization.HR Profession is one of the respectable job in which HR Professionals handle people and their problems at work.

Sometimes they get quite personal to know the actual problem in employee's life. HR Professionals goal is to spread positive energy among employees and to make sure that all employees are satisfied and happy at work.Starting from Recruitment to Health and safety of the employees they play a major role.

When a person asks for a job to someone,the first answer that comes from that person would be "I know a HR person in that company ,i will help you get the job".Also when you are a HR person in a company ,what ever function you may be in HR ,people used to approach you for job openings.HR people have a prestigious image among public generally.

In today's scenario HR persons are role model for others. In the time of crisis, people are looking towards HR. So, they are carrying huge burden on their shoulders.The inspiration for me to take up a career in HR ,came from the HR people in the company i worked with previously.They are the best HR people i have ever seen.I have seen them working more hrs than the other employees in the organization.Its not easy to be a HR in a company.It needs patience and people handing skills to survive for a long period.

Win people to your way of thinking

I love to read books written by the author Dale Carnegie.He was an American writer and lecturer and the developer of famous courses in self improvement, salesmanship, corporate training ,public speaking and interpersonal skills.

His books are a must read for all management students.In one of his books he as written how to win people to your way of thinking.The ideas given by the author are reviewed below,

1.The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.
2.Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say, "You're wrong."
3.If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
4.Begin in a friendly way.
5.Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately.
6.Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
7.Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
8.Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.
9.Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.
10.Appeal to the nobler motives.
11.Dramatize your ideas.
12.Throw down a challenge.

In the same book he as given ideas on How to Change People Without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment.

A leader's job often includes changing your people's attitudes and behavior. Some suggestions to accomplish this:

1.Begin with praise and honest appreciation.
2.Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.
3.Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.
4.Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
5.Let the other person save face.
6.Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be "hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise."
7.Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to.
8.Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.
9.Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest

Does Management know their Staff?

I received a mail from one of my friend with the subject "Does management know their staff? The story in the mail really made me laugh.This is how most of the organizations seemed to be functioning in reality.Its not possible for the management to know each and every employee working in the company, but they should have a functioning system to identify who their employees are and are not.

On walking into the factory, the Managing Director of the company
noticed a young guy leaning against the wall, doing nothing.

He approached the young man and calmly said to him,
"How much do you earn?"

The young man was quite amazed
that he was asked such a personal question,
he replied, none the less, "I earn $ 2000.00 a month,
Sir. Why?"

Without answering, the MD took out his wallet
and removed $6000.00 cash and gave it to the young man and said,
"Around here I pay people for working,
not for standing around looking pretty!

Here is your 3 months salary, now GET OUT and don't come back".

The young man turned around and was quickly out of sight.

Noticing a few onlookers, the MD said in a very upset manner,
"And that applies to everybody in this company".

He approached one of the onlookers and asked him, "Who's the young man
I just fired?"

To which an amazing reply came - "He was the pizza delivery guy , Sir!"

History of Human resource management

I have been researching few days to find out,from where the HRM had its first existence.After a detailed research i was able to find the answer to it.

The history of HRM can be traced to England before 1900,where masons,carpenters, leather workers and other crafts people organized themselves into guilds.They used their unity to improve their work conditions.These guilds became forerunners of trade unions.However many key concepts of HRM came from the USA.

Before 1900,most hiring ,firing,training and pay adjustment decisions were made by individual supervisors.The scientific management studies conducted by Frederick W.Taylor and others,beginning in 1885,helped management to identify different ways of doing work and to increase the work productivity.

The HRM field further developed with the arrival of the Industrial Revolution in 1870s.The Industrial Revolution began with the substitution of steam power and machinery for time consuming hand labour.Due to the Industrial Revolution,working conditions,social patterns and division of labour were significantly changed.

As organizations grew larger,many managerial functions such as planning ,recruitment,selection,placement and purchasing began to be performed by specialists.Now HRM is the backbone mantra for almost all organizations.

Life in a BPO

BPO industry is the one which recruits people at all times,the reason is not they need more people, the real reason is many people keep leaving the industry day by day.ITES companies provide a good working environment,Attractive salary, huge incentives, transport facilities ,Food allowances,etc....but in compromise with your sleep,health ,time with your lovely family and friends.

Employees in a BPO get only 1 week off and that day will be spent for sleeping.They always go away from their social life,they have a quest to link themselves to the social life.This is very hard for them to mingle with their society or attend social gathering.Even though most of the times they are not able to celebrate their festivals.

While solving the problem of client they have to wear a fake smile on their face and have to prove themselves that how happy they are while servicing them(clients).Handling a single customer is really a uphill task.

10Hr work- 4 hr transport- 10Hr Sleep ,this is how the life will be in a day at BPO.I feel for a employee working in a BPO ,should be given 2 days week off and the time period of work should be limited to 8hrs.May be this can reduce the mental pressure and give little time for the employee for his personal life too.

The best way to retain people is to make them qualified. Most of the staff in BPOs is young and so, very concerned about their career. Courses like M Tech, MCA and MBA at PG level will make them well equipped for the job market after three years.”

One might note that such interesting educational offers have been offered from time to time however; they were more on a short-term basis. But with regular classes at Call Centers, the scenario might entirely change. Professional diplomas like MCSE, JCP (Java Certification Program) and Cisco have clicked in the past.

By offering interesting educational programme the Indian Call Centerswould not only be taking care of their employees futures, but also, fighting off attrition by absorbing candidates at higher levels into management after graduation. Moreover, with 100 per cent placement guarantee, the programme may be a big success besides, being a model for the world to follow.

Layoff Trend

I underwent on the job training in one of the leading IT company 2 months back.I was put in a team called EHS( Employee helpdesk services team).When i joined, there were 4 HR executives in the team. But as days passed 2 executives were put on layoff in the team.Not only in that team,but many employees in the company were put on layoff.The company seemed to cut cost and layoff people.

Every other employee in the company were working with a fear in mind about losing their job.Things were going bad and all were worried .Some of my friends who were working for 4 to 5 years in the company were too in the list.They don't know what to do next.

They were asking me to help them land in a job .I consoled them and got the email ids of them and was forwarding the list of companies recruiting people.My friends found it useful and 4 of my friends got placed in a good company.They called me and thanked me for letting them know the openings.Felt happy ,i was able to help someone get a job in this Recession.

Many companies use Recession as a tool to cut cost and layoff unwanted resources in their company.Its become a fashion for companies to ask employees to leave the organization saying Recession,but they seemed to recruit new people by the side.

Companies replace old people who were getting large pay with new employees for a lesser pay.Salary cuts,No appraisal,No bonus,No incentives,No allowances etc.., have become common words used by many companies now.I have seen many of my friends losing jobs day by day and suffering to repay their loans and run their family.

Its a tough time for People losing jobs during this recession because getting another job is a hurdle for them.In the company i did my project, people who dint perform well were mostly asked to leave the company.So its like a black mark for them when they attend interviews for other companies.

Things seemed to getting better now slowly,lets pray we don't get any more recession like this in future.

How to win Friends and influence people

During my PG i Read a book named "How to Win friends and Influence people" by Dale Carnegie.Initially i started reading the book for a book review assignment,but as pages passed ,it was so interesting and inspiring.The main ideas given by the author to win friends and influence people are as follows,

1.Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
2.Give honest and sincere appreciation.
3.Arouse in the other person an eager want.
4.Become genuinely interested in other people.
5.Smile.
6.Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
7.Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
8.Talk in terms of the other person's interests.
9.Make the other person feel important - and do it sincerely.

These words really works out,try these ideas with your friends and experience the difference.

Contract Employee

Yesterday i attended a company for a HR role.The company is one of the top IT service provider in India.The were ready to take me into their company not as a permanent employee but as a contract employee.They asked me to sign a contract for 6 months initially, after which they may extend the contract depending on their requirement.In that company they have a rule that contract employee will be made permanent only after a year and half.

After i made a research about the contract employment, i was able to get more details about it.Contract Of Employment is a legally enforceable agreement, either oral or written, between an employer and an employee that defines terms and conditions of employment.A contract employee gets his/her salary through cheques and they are not given a salary slip as other permanent employees in the organization.

Contract employee will be given only a fixed pay and is excluded from benefits like medical allowances,transport allowances,PF,HRA,Income Tax etc..,And also there is a risk of any time the employer breaking the contract.The contract employees don't come into the head count of the company and they don't have any appraisal procedure for them.Once the contract is over,the employer may extend the contract or send the employee out of the company

Many companies seemed to reduce cost by taking people as contract employee and on stipend basis.This kind of employment is seen often in many companies in today's scenario.One of my friend who joined as a contract employee in a leading MNC for HR role,was paid only 7000Rs instead of original salary 20,000Rs and no Benefits. This is how most companies reduce cost through contract employment.

Government should set proper rules and regulations for contract employment in India, to avoid organizations which use it as a tool to get more work from an employee and pay less to them.
